Dear you,
Today I drove a car that wasn't mine. For 35 miles I listened to a mix CD that a friend gave me: I cranked it up and sang along, feeling her presence with me on my mini roadtrip. I walked downhill to downtown with my cousin. Who knew thai tofu wraps could be so good. We thought about sharing our meals but ended up sharing our lives. Antique shop after antique shop after antique shop was visited. I walked slowly between the glass bottles, stacks of books, old tools: drowsed by the heat and presence of what was. Sweat trickled down my spine as we made our way to ice cream. Who knew spoons so small could deliver so much flavor to our mouths. Walking uphill was trying: I couldn't help but feel like our bodies are not meant to get used to it. A few last-minute conversations and hugs goodbye. I know her town better than mine-- I got lost when I came back home.
And here I am: feeling incredibly antsy, all the while calm.
Sincerely,
Shae
