thanksgiving in canberra

dear you,

as i was watering the garden around 9.30 this morning, in a tank top and shorts, i realized: it's thanksgiving. the birds were chirping, the sun was heating, the trees were rustling, the grass was crunching. i thought about the chilly, gray weather that most of my thanksgivings have been filled with. as well as all the typical sights, sounds, and smells of november coming to an end.

but then i turned off the hose, meandered back to the house, and sat in front of a fan.

following an afternoon of substantial conversation, coffee, and cake, i headed to a beautiful house lodged on the side of a hill. after entering through the door, all the typical sights, sounds, and smells of thanksgiving came rushing back to me. candles burning, decorations sitting, oven's baking, people buzzing, turkey roasting, bread warming. before i knew it, ten other people surrounded me at a table, filling my night with sincere conversations, memories, and traditions. it was splendid.

but then we turned on the car, meandered back to the house, and sat in front of a fan.

sincerely,
shae

  1. Hmmm, the best of both worlds? I hope you never forget what your Thanksgiving "down under" was like! Thanks for sharing about the day! Blessings!
