hospitable today.

dear you,

"be hospitable today," she told us. so a friend and i set out with completely good intentions to complete her request. we headed to a local coffee shop.

our dream: to draw unique sketches, write encouraging words, and hand them out to random people. maybe even start up a few conversations--who knows?
our reality: well... we drew unique sketches, wrote discouraging words, and kept them to ourselves for fear of weirding out the regulars. maybe we sat in the back of the shop, on a couch in a corner, only talking to each other--who knows?
our result: failure.

"be hospitable today," He told us. so we try, day by day, to set out and have completely good intentions to complete his request.

our dream: to be nice friendly people, helping strangers out when in need, and try to better the world around us.
our reality: well... some people receive hospitality better than others. some people give out hospitality better than others. but our task is to strive for it day by day by day by day.
our result: sometimes we fail, but i like to think that we succeed more often than not. maybe it's just my nature to attempt at this quality, but perhaps it just comes natural with being a good human.

sincerely,
shae

  1. nice...hospitality is difficult to practice as a part of our daily life, it involves the risk of relationship and the risk of rejection. But yet we are called to sacrificially love (and maybe that doesn't even fully get at it). I wonder if sometimes we were more aware of how we recieve hospitality we would be able to share it more...have fun with this
